Approximately six weeks after the end of each semester,
the OAS publishes a Semiannual Management and Performance
Report, which since 2013 includes reporting on programmatic
results. The full texts may be found here.

Workshop for Strengthening Air Quality Monitoring in Latin America August 26-29, 2019
The event took place on August 26-29, 2019, in the Laboratory of the Atmospheric Monitoring System of Mexico City. The activity consisted of a theoretical and practical workshop focused on strengthening the traceability of air quality measurements carried out at monitoring stations in the region. This need arose from the results achieved during the regional Metrology workshop for the Quality Assurance of the Measurements of the Air Quality Monitoring Networks executed in June 2018 in Costa Rica.
This workshop was attended by approximately 35 participants from 9 countries in the region. The participating states included: Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Uruguay, Peru and Mexico. Through the presentations of each of the participating countries / states, a comparison of the different air quality monitoring systems in the region was made, together with the support they receive from their National Metrology Institute (INM), sharing strengths, weaknesses, and needs of their monitoring systems.
The event also had the participation of 3 American experts, who were responsible for conducting both theoretical and practical presentations of the different topics addressed during the course of the activity: (Procedures for the correct generation of calibration standards, quality control in the monitoring of pollutants criteria and good practices, representativeness of the data for air quality monitoring, quality control for monitoring networks). The practical demonstrations of the laboratory equipment (hands in lab) addressed real situations with which the participants can meet on their daily work, and shared their experience, knowledge and even material with the participants, contributing to a technical strengthening of their abilities in the subject.
The opening and closing of the event was attended by Ambassador Aníbal Quiñónez, Representative of the OAS in Mexico, Mr. Sergio Zirath, General Director of Air Quality of the Secretariat of the Environment of Mexico City (SEDEMA) and the Mrs. Magdalena Navarro from the Institute of Standards and Technology of the United States (NIST), who highlighted the fundamental role of Metrology in ensuring the quality of measurements in the monitoring networks of cities in the region; Measuring air quality and having reliable data allows determining the severity of the problem and also orienting public policies.
This activity was organized by the Organization of American States (OAS), in cooperation with the National Institute of Standards and Technology of the United States (NIST), The Secretariat of the Environment of Mexico City (SEDEMA) and Environmental Protection Agency from the city of Buenos Aires (APRA).
Objective
To Gather and train the operators of atmospheric monitoring networks in the main cities of Latin America, in order to improve the traceability of the measurements made and achieve a cooperation network at the regional level, through a theoretical-practical workshop.
