Trade and Economic Development

The Trade and Economic Development (TED) Section provides support to OAS member states to strengthen their institutional capacities to design and execute public policies and programs in the areas of micro, small and medium-sized enterprises and trade, including through training, horizontal cooperation and sharing of lessons learned.

THE TRADE AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT (TED) SECTION AND MSMEs:

High Level Dialogue
  • Inter-American Dialogue of High-Level MSME Authorities that provides a forum for the exchange of experiences and identification of cooperation initiatives for enhancing the competitiveness, innovation and internationalization of MSMEs.
  • Strengthening of the institutional capacity of national entities that assist MSMEs through online and on-site train-the-trainers programs.
  • Sharing of successful experiences in the framework of horizontal cooperation initiatives such as the US Small Business Development Center (SBDC) model that is currently being adapted in the Caribbean, following similar processes in Central and South America.
  • The TED Section implements training programs to strengthen the institutional capacity of governments as they confront the challenges linked to: (i) the negotiation and implementation of trade and investment agreements; and, (ii) taking advantage of new trade opportunities, particularly in the case of the micro, small and medium enterprise (MSME) sector.

    FOREIGN TRADE INFORMATION SYSTEM (SICE):

    FOREIGN TRADE INFORMATION SYSTEM (SICE)
    • SICE provides access to information on trade policy in the Americas including: full texts of trade agreements in force, new and ongoing trade policy developments, national trade-related legislation, and links to international, regional and national sources. SICE also includes an MSME online clearinghouse of legislation and initiatives on public policies and programs to support the development of the MSME sector.
