Sixth Inter-American Meeting of Ministers of Education
The VI Ministerial Meeting was held on August 12-14, 2009, in Quito, Ecuador. The main topic of discussion was the secondary education, with a central theme of: “Better opportunities for the youth of the Americas: rethinking secondary education”. The discussion focused on the transformation of secondary education, including proposals to revamp the curriculum with a view to achieving better results for youth in terms of their integration into society and the world of work.
The "Youth Meeting on Secondary Education in the Americas" was held in parallel with the Sixth Meeting of Ministers of Education. The event was organized by the Ministry of Education of Ecuador. From August 11 - 13, 48 young people from 11 OAS member countries, discussed issues related to youth and education with the ultimate goal of writing a document stating their own proposals on education policies. This document was presented to the Ministers of Education during the first day of the ministerial meeting. A video in which young people have expressed their concerns to Ministers on the current state of education in countries of the Americas was also produced.
