ABOUT SEDI
SEDI - Executive Secretariat for Integral Development
Other than its role as an intergovernmental organization promoting Democracy, Human Rights and Security in the region, the OAS is also the foremost Space for Cooperation in the Americas. |
| Within the OAS, SEDI is the Secretariat responsible for: |
- Supporting political dialogue at the highest levels through ministerial meetings
- Offering different programs and projects of cooperation in the following areas:

| OUR MISSION |
- Support, facilitate, and Foster integral development in the member states in coordination with measures to strengthen democracy, multidimensional security, and the promotion of human rights.
- Promote intersectorial dialogue, public- private partnerships, and consensus building in the integration of government policies on sustainable human development.
- SEDI also endeavors to mobilize resources for the formulation, promotion and implementation of technical cooperation policies, programs, and projects in the areas of integral development.

| OUR MISSION |
- Coordinate and facilitate support to the Member States
The Executive Office seeks to facilitate and to coordinate the support given by the departments of SEDI to the Member States in their efforts to promote integral development through inter-American cooperation.
- Plan and execute programs, projects and activities of cooperation
The Executive Office promotes, coordinates, manages and facilitates the planning and execution of programs, projects and activities of cooperation for development. The ultimate objective is to contribute to the reduction of poverty and inequity and to strengthen democratic governability in Latin America and the Caribbean.

The Department of Trade and Tourism supports the efforts of the OAS Member States to expand trade opportunities, increase competitiveness and foster economic integration, so as to achieve higher and more sustainable economic growth and prosperity that will in turn serve to create jobs and reduce poverty.

OUR MISSION
The Department of Sustainable Development (DSD) supports OAS Member States in the design and implementation of policies, programs and projects oriented to integrate environmental priorities with poverty alleviation and socio-economic development goals.
|
|
By translating sustainable development and environmental protection goals into concrete actions, the DSD supports the execution of projects and the exchange of technical information, to improve the decision-making process through activities at the national and regional levels, in diverse priorities areas.
OUR OBJECTIVES
- Provide support to the political organs of the OAS
- Represent the General Secretariat in technical dialogues in the hemisphere and in intergovernmental environmental fora including those in the United Nations System.
- Support member states in the formulation and execution of technical cooperation and investment projects for consideration by regional and international financing mechanisms, in response to the mandates on Sustainable Development of the Summits of the Americas.
- Facilitate exchange of information and support civil society participation in sustainable development decision-making.
- Support efforts to promote coordination and cooperation among bilateral and international agencies, civil society organizations and the private sector in achieving the goals of the organization

OUR MISSION
The Department of Social Development and Employment
provides assistance to Member States on their efforts to advance on development with equity, through the promotion of policies and programs of poverty reduction, decent work and employment creation.
|
| The DSDE fulfills its strategic objectives through activities integrated in the following areas: |
- promotion of inter-American dialogue on social development, labor and employment; through the support of specialized political fora;
- promotion of partnership for development, especially horizontal cooperation activities based on the exchange of knowledge and experiences in planning and implementation of public policies;
- coordination of actions with other international organizations, scholars, private sector and civil society.

The Department was formally established on December 15, 2005 by Executive Order No. 05-13 of the General Secretary of the OAS, incorporating under its responsibility all of the activities in the areas of social development, work and employment which the OAS has been developing since its creation in 1948.

- Advises and assists Member States with the design and development of policies and programs to promote Human Capacity Development and regional integration by strengthening post-secondary and higher education initiatives.
- Assists the citizens of the Americas in realizing their full potential by giving them access to knowledge through training and the development of competencies that improve the standards of living for individuals, families and communities in the region.
