Knowledge Sharing
In addition to policy dialogue activities, The OEC promotes the exchange of technical knowledge and resources between our member countries in the area of education and culture. Based on consultations with member states and other key actors in the region, the OEC/OAS has developed a strategy to promote information among member states that is guided by the premise that strengthening policy (formulation, implementation, and evaluation) requires:
1) Building a broad social consensus around education reforms:
a. diversifying the amount of stakeholders involved in the policy process
b. Promoting permanent, sustained, and authentic collaboration between policymakers, practitioners, and researchers.
2) Building technical and political capacity of stakeholders at all levels through training and workshop opportunities.
3) Monitoring and evaluating programs and policies in the region
Networks: research, professional development, and information exchange
The OEC promotes member states efforts in these areas by supporting the consolidation of networks of policymakers, researchers, and practitioners in the formal and non-formal sector working on priority areas defined by the Ministers of Education. Concrete activities vary within each network as they are determined by members; they can be grouped generally into three areas: research, professional development, and information exchange. For specific activities in networks see www.educadem.oas.org or www.oest.oas.org/iten
Civil Society and Inter-Agency Consultations:
The OEC promotes information exchange between inter-governmental organizations, governments, and civil society through its inter-agency and civil society meetings and consultations. These consultations are on-going and occur in conjunction with the Summit and Ministerial process.
