Ignite the Americas - Youth Arts Policy Forum


"Ignite the Americas" is a Hemispheric initiative aimed at bringing together young artists and leaders from the 34 Member States of the OAS, policy makers and private sector representatives to explore and develop effective ways to amplify the power that arts and culture has in building social inclusion and generating economic opportunities .

 The First Ignite the Americas took place in Toronto, Canada on September 11 – 25th 2008, and was planned and organized by the Department of Canadian Heritage (PCH) in full partnership with the Inter-American Committee on Culture (CIC) and the following civil society youth organizations: Canadian Youth Arts Network (CYAN), Comcausa Arte e Pensamento, La familia Ayara, Manifesto Community Projects, The Remix Project, Schools without boarders (SWB) and Yo! The Movement.

 Concrete results of this first hemispheric forum include:

  1. The groundwork for a set of tools/resources young people and artists can use to create and sustain a business in culture.
  2. The creation of a strategic framework and plan for the creation of ayouth arts network of the Americas.
  3. The development of a set of recommendations aimed at creating cultural policy that uses arts and cultural expressions as effective tools for promoting youth inclusion and increasing economic growth.
